Owning the artist in me

I made two still life paintings this weekend using acrylic. Nothing fancy – Dollarama canvas boards, cheap paint, and old brushes. It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to play with paint and do some art. It’s just a hobby that I like to do from time to time. I realized that I get in the zone when I paint, mixing colors, and figuring out how to create that image on canvas.

Those moments lost in creation give me comfort. With all the things I have to take care of and deal with every day, painting is a joy a rarely feel. I didn’t do it because I have to. I did it because I wanted to. As I let time flow like the different pigments in the palette, worries escaped me.

I hope to paint more. I can’t make money off of it and probably never will but that’s what makes it good. That’s what makes it pure. It’s something I did just for myself for a change.

I’m an artist. I have skills. This is another dimension of me. I won’t feel bad about saying that from now own.
